Suzanne Massie, American specialist in Russian history, met Ronald Reagan on numerous occasions when he was President of the United States between 1984 and 1987. During their interactions, Suzanne gave him some advice: "Russians like to talk in proverbs. It would be good if you learned a few." She then taught him the Russian proverb « Doveryai, no proveryai » (Доверяй, но проверяй) which means "Trust, but verify."  

The proverb was adopted as a slogan by Reagan, who used it repeatedly during official meetings between the United States and the Soviet Union.

A powerful motto from its history and having great similarities with that of Bitcoiners: "Don’t trust, verify."
